Liverpool never fails to surprise!

Sunday 27 February 2011

After you've spent a few years in a place, you begin to think you've seen everything there is to see of the place, that nothing can surprise you anymore. Yet Liverpool manages to keep surprising me in many many ways. The trend of going out in your pj's with curlers in your hair still fascinates and annoys me but it's distinctly scouse so I can put up with it. So last night when I found myself in an old man/goth rocker, dark, dingy pub called the Swan, the last person I expected to encounter was a student chemist who wanted to talk genetics! Liverpool never fails to surprise! Nevertheless it was an interesting conversation, mostly enlightening me as to how alcohol affects a person's ability to structure a coherent and sensible thought. The night out itself was brilliant and I'd forgotten how good a night out with a bunch of girl-friends actually is! Rocking out to Panic! and Blink182 in The K is one of the best things ever, even if your feet are dead by the end of the night, you have huge blisters and you wake up feeling as though you've done a hundred sit-ups! I can't go out as often as I used to, alas I lack the stamina nowadays, but it's brilliant to let your hair down once in a while!

My semester 1 module marks made the last few months of stress all worthwhile having gained an average of 67, with three of the five modules I took scoring 77-70. Definitely on track for a merit, and dare I hope, a distinction?? We shall see I suppose. Now I need to apply for PhD's and jobs and hope I can get my life sorted soon. Or at least the next few years of it!

We're coming to the end of February now and March is going to be a busy month for me. It's my Grandma's birthday and her party which has been no end of hassle trying to organise, but everything seems to be falling into place now. I've also got my bird of prey experience to go on which is going to be absolutely amazing!! More uni work, learning MySQL and HTML will become the natural humdrum of my life once more and hopefully things will go smoothly!

My film recommendation of the week is I Am Number Four. A brilliant film about a guy/alien who is on the run from those who would try to kill him. It's corny in parts, don't get me wrong, but it's another great production from Michael Bay and well worth a trip to the IMAX to see! Stunning effects, an effortless story and last but certainly not least, an absolutely gorgeous english gem in the form of Alex Pettyfer! (Or if you're a guy, Dianna Agron from Glee). Don't miss out!

Sun is shining!

Wednesday 16 February 2011

This is going to be a bit of a mixed post today as although the past weekend or so has been amazing, the death of my computer last night destroyed everything.

So this weekend Chris whisked me off for a romantic weekend away in the Lakes. It was wonderful. On the Saturday we stopped by Aira Force waterfalls and saw the most beautiful fall with a rainbow across it. Having taken us less time than we'd thought it would, we had a drive through the Honister Pass then stopped at Buttermere for a walk, and I hoped for a Desperados but much to my dismay, the pub didn't start stocking them till Easter. Ahwell! In the evening we had an amazing meal at a country pub-like place and although it was stupidly cold it was a really nice night. On Sunday we went to the Aquarium on the Lake at Windermere...Don't go there. It's £10 to get in and the fish you see are no different to what you can buy at Pets At Home. Not only that, but the fish exhibits were so weak, they had monkeys. Yeah that's what I thought...All in all though it was amazing and Chris is amazing too!

Like I said, my computer died a horrible death and I'm still trying to figure out why. I was using it last night when it refused to open programs. So I figured a restart would sort it out. Except when it restarted it got stuck on the Windows splash page, everytime! Tried launching startup repair and it froze everytime. Eventually had to work through safe boot and do a system restore and Windows loaded, but I still have no idea what actually caused it. Which means I'm going to be on edge now for the forseeable future. Time to get it insured I think!

Today is my favourite TV show day. Both Glee and Hellcats, what could be better! Hellcats especially was brilliant this week and what's frustrating me is that they sung Redemption Song at the end and it was a bloody good version of it. Except noone has seized on this and turned it into a torrent for me yet :( Hopefully it'll get released on a CD of the series? Maybe? Hopefully...

I leave you this week with my favourite picture of the week!

Ciao!

On The Mend!

Wednesday 9 February 2011

***GLEE SPOILER BELOW*** (Well not unless you were watching it with America before Christmas. Not sure where the UK are up to at the moment!)

Well nothing too disastrous has happened so far! A pleasant surprise for me I have to say! I had fun with the girls (and guys) from work when we went bowling on Sunday and it was a great distraction from not being able to breathe! I also won Employee of the Month for January so yay me! I managed to get my interim report in on time without any trouble, though at the sacrifice of a lecture. But hey! I maintain that had I forced myself in for that lecture, I would not be able to half breathe like I can now! (excuses excuses I know...)

Gingersnap is still disturbing my precious sleep, and although I'll be incredibly sad to see her go, another part of me is going to be utterly elated. She still hasn't dropped her babies (if she actually has any and isn't just fat) and in one weeks time, we'll know for certain she isn't pregnant. She had a run in the yard for a few hours yesterday, but when it came to bringing her back inside, all hell broke loose! Did she want to come in? Did she bugger! Instead she ran a merry dance around the yard until I cornered her behind the BBQ. It strikes me that rabbits aren't the smartest creatures on this planet. When given the choice of coming in quietly after I'd managed to grab her, or jumping into a concrete wall, she took the wall and with the clout she got, it would surprise me if she knew who she is still!

I went to ASDA today when I realised I literally had no food in and couldn't believe some of the insane deals they have on. Three Flash products for £2, or buy them individually for £2.02...It was cheaper for me to buy 3 items than just the one! Crazy! Imagine my glee when I saw a similar such offer on Jamaica ginger cake! :D Buy 2 for £1 or buy them singly for £1.20! It's a no-brainer! I sense an addiction coming on!

Speaking of Glee, although I very much enjoyed my double dose of the show this week, I think it's starting to decline! Last season was amazing, but I'm not getting the same feeling from this one. Don't get me wrong, I still love it, but things just aren't right! For example, it took an entire season to get Rachel and Finn together, then half a season later they break it up?! Come on!! We waited a year and a half for that and now you snatch it from us?!

Hopefully all of you have lovely plans for Valentines Day. Although I've nothing lovely planned for the day itself (I'm actually getting jabbed with an experimental vaccine that day...), I do have a nice trip coming up this weekend! Chris is taking me to the Lakes for the weekend (courtesy of his parents) and I'm very much looking forward to it. Though if I hear mention of Jacuzzi, sauna or steam room once more, I may have to drown him in the water he loves so much! :P

Before I write anymore of an essay I'll leave you with these ponderings!

Stuffed up to the heavens

Saturday 5 February 2011

So yesterday I woke up not being able to breathe, something I think should be blamed on standing around outside at 3am on Thursday morning after the weekly Archery night out. Getting up at 8am that morning wasn't the most enjoyable experience but at least I got taken out for cake and drink by my supervisor with his research group. I've been at Liverpool Uni for 3.5 years now, and I've never stepped foot in the Victoria Art Gallery and Museum. When we went for those drinks, I failed to understand why! It's beautiful in there and definitely something for people of the Uni to be proud of.

I got to see my darling Puff at work last night and she's still just as gorgeous as ever and I cannot wait to bring her home!!! As soon as the hellspawn named Gingersnap has found her new home! I might scream if she keeps me awake anymore! Pep has recovered well from her operation, much to my relief, and although she's got a scab or something beneath her skin I'm assured it's nothing to worry about. What I should be worrying about is the fact I've an interim report due in on Monday that I only learned about yesterday, and I'm unfortunately busy all weekend...Yeah wish me luck!

Despite being all bunged up, it's made slightly better by the fact Chris is here to look after me, though he tries to suffocate me more than anything! He'll no doubt catch whatever I have and make himself miserable for our trip next weekend, but it'll all be his fault! xD Lot's of reading to do this week and need to brush up on my programming skills so if needed, I'm not such an awful teacher. Hopefully nothing goes epically wrong but hey! It's me and something is bound to happen xD.
